Heike M. Reeg-Smith
Lead Educator / ECE / ManagerHeike Reeg-Smith has lived in Kaslo since 1991, raising her five children, farming, and teaching privately. In 2010 Heike joined Periwinkle Children’s Centre. At the centre, Heike has created a Waldorf-based program that engages the children through their “hands, hearts, and heads”. Art and story, music, free, self directed play, and exploration of the natural environment form a strong

rhythm throughout each day. Periwinkle provides many opportunities for growth, as children interact in this safe and caring environment. Heike also teaches the Creative Arts Program, which provides a rich experience of art, handwork, music, and farm and outdoor education for home-schooled children. Her love and dedication to the healthy and holistic development of young children is her main goal in her teaching.
Heike completed her Waldorf teacher training in Europe. She also holds a certificate in Early Childhood Education.

Heather Stark
Educator / ECE
Heather joins Periwinkle with a deep love of being outdoors with young children. She has a background in nature connection mentoring, Forest School, Reggio Emilia and Waldorf approaches and has taught as a kindergarten teacher in Canmore and Calgary. Heather enjoys collaborating with other educators, families and community members to support the wholesome development of children and is a strong advocate for play. She loves to tell stories and delights in the innate curiosity of children. When not at Periwinkle, Heather can be found exploring the trails by ski, bike or foot!"

Aurora Smith
Educator / ECEA
Aurora Smith was born and raised in Kaslo and has recently returned after studying in Victoria for several years. Aurora loves to spend as much time as possible exploring the outdoors, whether it is through hiking, biking, skiing, canoeing or Search and Rescue training. She has worked with children, teaching private and group music lessons for over 10 years, as well as teaching at various music and theatre camps across BC. Aurora enjoys supporting children through indoor and outdoor activity and play and loves anything to do with textile arts. Aurora is an ECEA and is working towards her ECE certificate and education degree.

Allison Kane
Educator / ECEA
Allison Kane is a mother of three young boys. She has been living in Kaslo for a little over 5 years. She enjoys gardening, boating in the summer and x-country skiing in the winter. Her experience with children includes teaching swim lessons, yoga, music and camp counselling. She is very much interested in Waldorf philosophies, outdoor education and child-led learning. Allison is a certified ECEA and is working towards her ECE certificate at Selkirk College.
